Former Barcelona star and ex-Netherlands international Ronald de Boer has praised Lamine Yamal’s impact and backed the Catalans ahead of their Champions League clash with Atletico Madrid.
Speaking during the Legends Trophy tournament in Milan, the former Ajax and Barça star highlighted the Barcelona youngster’s exceptional talent.
“The most decisive player in the world? For me, Lamine Yamal, especially considering his age, is incredible,” De Boer said, as quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
De Boer also acknowledged other top players, adding: “I also like Raphinha, Mbappe, Vinicius… There are many very good players, even at Bayern Munich I’ve seen great players. But if I have to choose one, I’d choose Lamine Yamal.”
The Dutch icon, who spent two seasons at Barcelona as a player between 1999 and 2001, also gave his opinion on the UEFA Champions League quarterfinal between his former club and Atletico Madrid.
“It will be very interesting. The previous match was very tough for Barça, a good 4-0 victory for Atletico Madrid. So they know they have to do something different,” he said, referring to the Catalans’ Copa del Rey first-leg defeat against the Colchoneros.
He also highlighted Atlético’s intensity, saying: “It’s going to be very tough. It’s always very difficult to play against them, very intense. Barça will have to play their own game in those two matches.”
However, ultimately, De Boer gave his vote of confidence to Barcelona heading into the tie next month, saying:
“I think Barcelona, when everyone is fit and focused, can win both matches. With my Barça heart, I’m rooting for Barça.”
