A UFC legend is convinced that Stipe Miocic has a great chance against Jon Jones, claiming the Croatian-American can force the heavyweight champion into a difficult position.

The two combat sports icons are set to go head-to-head later tonight at UFC 309, inside Madison Square Garden, New York, USA.

Randy Couture thinks Stipe Miocic can beat Jon Jones

While many are writing off Stipe Miocic in his title clash against Jon Jones, Randy Couture is adamant that the icon still has a lot left in the tank.

Having scaled the heavyweight mountain himself, the gifted grappler has spotted several flaws in the argument that this is a one-sided fight.

Firstly, having won the belt, being competed for tonight, at 44 himself, he doesn’t believe Miocic is too old.

Secondly, utilizing his analytical skills, he’s spotted something the greatest heavyweight of all time can do to push ‘Bones’ into the trenches.

Sheesh: Jake Paul and Mike Tyson are both suspended from boxing

In an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, Couture said: “I still like the fight. I think Stipe Miocic has a lot of fight left in him. I’m not one to put numbers on anybody. Stipe is more than capable of handling himself. Jon Jones hasn’t fought in two years, either.

“So, if you want to talk about cage-rust and who’s gone over the top and is on their way down, you can make a case for either one of those guys.

“But they’re both great athletes. They’ll be in great shape, and they’ll bring their A-games, and it’ll be an interesting fight.

“I think Jon Jones may have to use some of his wrestling ability. He gets away with not using that much. But Miocic is gonna challenge him for sure, and make him have to use his wrestling. That will be interesting.”

Randy Couture gives surprising pick for the greatest fighter of the modern era

When asked who the best fighter of the current day is, most opt for Jones, Alex Pereira or Islam Makhachev.

However, Couture isn’t convinced that any of those guys are the number one.

In reality, the icon claims that two other men deserve that accolade far more, with an interesting breakdown to back it up.
