Barcelona’s vision for the new Spotify Camp Nou has taken another significant step forward after the club officially confirmed its intention to host one of the biggest events in world football.

The Catalan giants have announced that they have formally submitted their candidacy to UEFA to host the 2029 UEFA Champions League Final.

The proposal has been prepared in collaboration with Barcelona City Council, the Generalitat de Catalunya and the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), which is acting as the host and co-organising association.

With the application process now completed, UEFA has received the full dossier containing all the required documentation, guarantees and technical details needed to support Barcelona’s bid.

Barcelona ready to take the step

The club revealed that the complete proposal has already been delivered to UEFA and includes all contractual, institutional and operational requirements requested by European football’s governing body.

In an official statement, Barcelona confirmed the submission of the bid.

“FC Barcelona, together with Barcelona City Council, the Government of Catalonia and with the support of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF), as host and co-organising association, has formally submitted to UEFA the bid and complete dossier to apply for hosting the 2029 UEFA Champions League Final.”

The decision now moves into UEFA’s hands, with the organisation expected to evaluate all candidate cities before selecting the venue for one of the most prestigious matches in club football.

Barcelona have reasons to believe

As such, Barcelona believe the ongoing transformation of Spotify Camp Nou through the Espai Barça project strengthens their case considerably.

Once completed, the stadium is expected to be among the most advanced and modern sporting venues anywhere in the world.

The renovated Spotify Camp Nou is at the heart of the club’s long-term project.

This is why hosting Europe’s biggest club match would provide the perfect opportunity to showcase the stadium to a global audience.

Lastly, there is also a strong historical connection, as Camp Nou previously hosted the 1989 European Cup Final and the unforgettable 1999 Champions League Final, a match remembered for one of the most dramatic endings in football history.

Barcelona are now hoping that history can repeat itself once more.
