The Julian Alvarez saga took another dramatic turn late Tuesday, when Real Madrid confirmed Atletico Madrid have rejected a €150 million offer for the attacker.
Atletico Madrid came out all guns blazing in response to Real Madrid’s public statement confirming their rejected €150 million bid for the Argentine forward.
All of this happened while Barcelona were sitting on the sidelines, supposedly being Alvarez’s favoured destination.
Julian is not for sale
However, Barcelona and Real Madrid’s chances of signing Alvarez appear to be seemingly bleak as Atletico president Enrique Cerezo has made it clear that the player is not for sale.
“Julian is not for sale,” Cerezo bluntly told El Chiringuito, making the club’s position crystal clear to both Real Madrid and Barcelona, who have been circling the player.
But the club did not stop there. Atletico Madrid took to social media to respond to Real Madrid’s statement in a tone that was equal parts defiant and mocking, posting laughing emojis before following up with a pointed official response.
Atletico’s social media broadside
“Official statement with our clarifications on the official statement from our neighbors Real Madrid: 1. The Pope’s video was cut off where he said that he was also an Atleti fan.

2. You may have confused education with gratitude, but so that there is no doubt: we do not thank you for anything. 3. We neither study nor evaluate any offer for Julian. 4. How can we not get along, if you make us laugh even more than Barcelona.”
A third message followed shortly after, taking aim at Real Madrid’s recruitment of academy players. “Taking advantage of the good relationship with your new president, let’s see if you stop stealing players from our Academy. Thank you very much, Real Madrid.”
Atletico are pointing to Alvarez’s release clause of €500 million, a figure designed to make any transfer practically impossible.
The club insists the striker is not for sale regardless of the offers that arrive, whether from Real Madrid or Barcelona.
Barcelona, for their part, are not in a position to afford such a figure. They are reportedly only willing to go as much as €120 million.
