Barcelona’s growing injury concerns have now extended deep into their academy, with Guille Fernandez becoming the latest casualty in what is turning into a worrying trend for the club.
The Catalan giants confirmed that the highly-rated youngster has suffered a muscle injury in the anterior rectus of his left leg.
As per the official update, the recovery period is expected to be between four and five weeks, effectively ruling him out for the remainder of the regular season.
While the injury itself is a setback, the timing makes it particularly damaging because Fernandez had been building momentum with Barça Atletic and was seen as one of the key players capable of influencing the team’s push during the final phase of the campaign.
However, his absence is just one part of a much larger problem.
Problems at Barça Atletic
Barcelona’s reserve side is currently going through a severe injury crisis, with multiple long-term absentees already sidelined.
The situation worsened recently when forward Juan Hernandez was ruled out after suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
Shortly after, defender Patricio Pacífico was also diagnosed with the same injury, leaving the squad stretched in key areas.

These are not isolated incidents, as muscle-related problems and knee injuries have become increasingly common within the squad.
The sheer volume of injuries has pushed the situation beyond what could be considered normal over the course of a season.
There is still a chance
Despite this, there is a slim positive for Fernandez.
The midfielder is expected to return during the decisive final stretch, when play-off qualification could still be within reach. If the timeline holds, he could yet play a role in determining Barça Atletic’s fate.
Notably, the injury crisis has also had a direct impact on squad management.
With several players unavailable, opportunities have opened up for others, but not necessarily within the reserve team itself.
This is because first-team manager Hansi Flick has called up three reserve players, namely, Tommy Marques, Xavi Espart, and Alvaro Cortes, for the Getafe clash, further depleting the options available to Barça Atletic.
