Saudi Arabia prepare to launch €40 million+ offer for Barcelona homegrown midfielder

Marc Casado of FC Barcelona

Marc Casado has endured a difficult season so far at FC Barcelona, with regular minutes not forthcoming, which in turn has affected his form.

The 22-year-old La Masia graduate finds himself behind Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Dani Olmo, and Marc Bernal in the pecking order.

It has limited the Spaniard to only 1129 minutes across 25 appearances in all competitions for the Blaugrana this season, leading to question marks over his future at the club.

Saudi Arabia ready to make a move

Now, according to 365Scores (h/t SPORT), Casado has become the new object of desire for Saudi Arabian football.

Indeed, the Barcelona midfielder appears on a list of candidates drawn up by the country’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) to strengthen the Saudi Pro League in the next transfer window.

The intention of PIF, which controls the leading clubs in the Saudi league, would be to present Barcelona with a proposal exceeding €40 million in order to persuade the club to enter negotiations.

Such figures would significantly benefit the club’s finances and their fair play situation.

Moreover, the Middle Eastern nation has already outlined the steps to be taken in its bid to convince Casado to make the switch.

For starters, a senior executive from PIF will attempt to organise a meeting with the player’s representatives in the coming days to explore his openness to a possible move.

This would not yet constitute a formal offer, but rather an initial approach to assess the viability of the operation and determine to what extent Casado would be willing to relocate to the Middle East this summer.

Apart from the €40 million-plus offer to Barça, the Spaniard would be offered a salary far higher than his current one, which is among the lowest in the squad, with the aim of securing his approval for the transfer.

Barcelona want renewal

However, as reported earlier in the week, Barcelona wish to renew Casado’s contract before the end of the season, as they consider him an important player despite his limited role this season.

There is no immediate urgency because his existing deal runs until 2028, but both parties have already initiated contact to define the length of the new agreement and its financial terms.

Negotiations are expected to intensify in the coming weeks, although everything will depend on the player’s role under Hansi Flick.
