FC Barcelona are all set to complete the contract renewal of key defender Eric Garcia imminently, with an agreement reached between the two parties.
The 24-year-old centre-back’s current contract stood to expire at the end of the ongoing season, and talks over an extension had been going on for a while now.
Everything seems to have been finalised now, with Barça sporting director Deco confirming as much in a recent interview earlier this week.
Contract signing on Thursday?
Now, according to Jijantes, Barcelona are now working to formalise the agreement and complete the contract signing of Eric.
If club president Joan Laporta’s schedule permits, the official act of the signing will likely take place next Thursday, the report adds.
Garcia’s new contract will run for five years, tying him down to the club until the summer of 2031. If he goes on to see it out, the defender would have spent a decade at Barcelona, having signed as a free agent from Manchester City in 2021.
Garcia almost left Barcelona in January earlier this year, but was convinced by Hansi Flick to stay. Since then, the Spaniard has grown from strength to strength, becoming one of the manager’s most reliable and trusted players.
Be it at centre-back, right-back, or defensive midfield, the 24-year-old has proven his worth with solid performances, which is why his renewal is a major positive for the Blaugrana.
If everything goes according to plan, Garcia’s official contract signing could take place a week from today.
