Jarred Brooks has an epic game plan to beat Reug Reug

Jarred Brooks is a gifted fighter, renowned for his formidable heart and tremendous wrestling skills.

The ONE interim strawweight champion is scheduled to settle his rivalry with Reece McLaren once and for all, on Friday evening, when he steps up to the flyweight division for a showdown at ONE Fight Night 26 at Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

However, while taking on someone bigger than them would intimidate many, Brooks isn’t scared of anyone.

In fact, when he bumped into Reug Reug a while back, the athlete was more than happy to engage in a playful grapple with the heavyweight champion.

WOW: Randy Couture says everyone thought he was ‘crazy’ before a major UFC fight

In an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow, Brooks, laughed: “That was our first time meeting. I knew he was a Senegal wrestling champion, and that’s how wrestlers approach each other. We hug like, ‘Hey man, how you doing’? And then, we give a little flex and then it’s, ‘Oh, s**t, we’re wrestling’.

“I mean it metaphorically when I say I can beat Reug Reug in a fight; the guy has lunch boxes for hands. But, at the same time, what I was coming across with was, ‘I can find one way to beat him’. And that’s not absolutely false. I could find one way to beat Reug Reug.

“That’s my Dr Doom mentality that I have. It’s ok, ‘I’m gonna go, and I’m gonna beat this guy, and I’m going to find a way’. It doesn’t matter how good he is; he could be Superman; he could be the Green Lantern. He ain’t Batman. I’m Batman. Every dad thinks he’s Batman, and so do I.”

With a beaming smile on his face, when asked how he’d go about finishing Reug Reug, the 31-year-old jokingly claimed: “When you go against taller opponents, you would have to go more towards their ankles. I would try to trip him onto his hips and then try and get legs in.

“He would stand-up immediately because I weigh 20x less than what his power clean is. But I think that I would get his back, and I’d be able to choke Reug Reug out.”

Jarred Brooks explains why he’d love to fight Demetrious Johnson

At ONE 168, Demetrious Johnson walked out in front of an adoring crowd at the Ball Arena in Denver, Colorado, USA, and announced his retirement.

To enormous cheers from the spectators, ‘Mighty Mouse’ was inducted into the Hall of Fame, before walking off into the sunset.

However, one man, who was somewhat sad to see him go, was Brooks, who’s always wanted to share the cage with him.

He told Bloody Elbow, why it would mean everything to have had the opportunity to trade leather with the legend.
