Liverpool increasingly likely to pay €55 million for Ronald Araujo as Barcelona loanee impresses

According to MARCA, Liverpool are increasingly likely to consider a permanent deal for Ronald Araujo if the Barcelona defender maintains his impressive form at Anfield.

A €55 million purchase option exists in the loan agreement between the two clubs giving Andoni Iraola’s side the chance to secure his services next summer on a permanent basis.

The Uruguay international has adapted quickly to life in England, and his performances have strengthened the case for keeping him beyond his season-long loan.

Araujo has made an encouraging start to his Liverpool spell after being moved from his preferred centre-back position to right-back.

His physical strength and defensive aggression have helped him adapt to the demands of the role, while his attacking contributions have added another dimension to his game – he was on target in Liverpool’s recent win over Villarreal.

Iraola has also recognised the defender’s experience and versatility, seeing both as valuable assets for his squad.

“Ronald needed this change and has arrived with humility. He is an experienced player from a big club who is ready to play in different positions,” the Liverpool manager said.

That adaptability could prove important when Liverpool assess whether to turn the loan into a permanent transfer.

Araujo happy at Liverpool but remains cautious about his future

The defender has made no secret of his satisfaction with his new surroundings. Having struggled for consistent playing time at Barcelona, Araujo is now getting the opportunity to establish himself in a new league and demonstrate his value.

“I think I am finding what I needed here, which was to play, feel important and show my football. It is very early to talk about these things. I am getting playing time, which is what I want, and then we will see what happens in the future,” Araujo said.

His comments reflect a desire to focus on performances rather than rush into a decision about his long-term future.

For Liverpool, the priority will be to determine whether his current form can be sustained throughout the campaign before committing a significant transfer fee.

Barcelona could use the €55 million to strengthen their defence

Barcelona will be watching Araujo’s progress closely. The purchase option would provide the Catalan club with a substantial potential return next summer, allowing them to consider reinvesting in an experienced defender to complement a relatively young back line.

However, it all depends on Liverpool’s decision on whether the €55 million outlay represents good value over the long term for them.

Araujo’s ability to operate at centre-back and right-back makes him an attractive option, and he has made a positive start to the season. But the final decision will depend on his consistency and the club’s wider defensive plans.
