Alejandro Balde’s future at Barcelona is beginning to attract increasing attention, with the young defender no longer viewed as completely untouchable at the Catalan club.
The latest Barcelona transfer news has brought AC Milan into the picture, although the Italian club is yet to take a step towards signing the 22-year-old.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Balde’s agent Jorge Mendes has offered the Barcelona defender to AC Milan as he explores the market for his client.
However, the Italian giants are not currently planning a move of that size, particularly with Barcelona believed to value the La Masia graduate at more than €40 million.
Right now, Balde is said to be happy in Barcelona and is not looking for an exit.
His priority is to stay and fight for his place, even though his position in Hansi Flick’s plans is no longer as secure as it once appeared.
Balde’s Barcelona future has become less certain
Not long ago, Balde looked set to be Barcelona’s undisputed long-term answer at left-back.
A product of La Masia, the Spanish defender made a major impression after breaking into the first team and quickly established himself as one of the most exciting young full-backs in European football.
However, the situation has changed.
The permanent arrival of Joao Cancelo has increased competition and complicated the picture for Balde.
His route to regular first-team football is no longer as clear, while Hansi Flick is also understood to have some doubts about the defender.
That does not mean Barcelona are pushing Balde out of the club. However, the possibility of an Alejandro Balde transfer is no longer completely off the table.
Jorge Mendes recently met with Barcelona directors to discuss the futures of several of his clients, with Balde among the players whose situations were assessed.
Barcelona have been aware for some time that a summer departure could become a realistic possibility under the right circumstances.
AC Milan approached while Man United make enquiry
According to Romano, Mendes has already tested the possibility of a move to AC Milan by offering Balde’s services to the Serie A side.
At present, though, Milan are not planning to commit to a transfer worth more than €40 million.
Barcelona’s asking price is proving to be a major obstacle for potential clubs, particularly given the financial scale of such a deal.
Meanwhile, Manchester United have also entered the conversation.
The Premier League club contacted Mendes this week to ask about the conditions required to sign Balde. However, there has been no official offer from Manchester United, and the situation remains at an early stage.
The Barcelona defender himself is not believed to be driving a move.
Balde wants to remain at Camp Nou and compete for his position, meaning any transfer would depend heavily on Barcelona’s stance and whether an interested club is willing to meet their valuation.
