Barcelona out-of-favour youngster chooses his next destination as exit looms – report

Hector Fort of Barcelona

Hector Fort is one of the FC Barcelona academy talents on his way out of the club this summer.

The 20-year-old right-back returned to the club this summer after spending the last season on loan at Elche, aiming to earn a place in Hansi Flick’s squad.

However, things did not work out as planned for the youngster and he was informed that he would not be a part of the plans.

At this point, despite the urgency surrounding the situation, the right-back is taking the necessary time to choose his next destination.

Hector Fort wants Borussia Dortmund

According to Sky Sport journalist Patrick Berger (h/t SPORT), Fort’s preferred destination after being pushed toward the exit is Borussia Dortmund.

He has communicated that preference to his representatives and Barcelona, asking them to step up negotiations with the German club rather than listen to other offers that have arrived for the full-back.

The La Masia defender has already rejected proposals that came from AS Roma and Real Sociedad. Both are interesting destinations, but Fort’s decision appears firm.

There have also been other approaches, with clubs such as Everton, Fulham and Inter Milan showing interest, particularly after the defender continued to be left out of Flick’s plans despite making a good impression at the start of pre-season.

Talks underway

Barcelona and Borussia Dortmund have already been in talks for some time to find a way to complete Fort’s move to Germany.

One development that could bring the transfer even closer, according to the report, is a departure from Dortmund first. This is where another major European club, Inter Milan, could become involved.

The Nerazzurri are interested in Luca Reggiani, an 18-year-old centre-back who broke into the first team last season and made eight appearances. If that transfer goes through, Fort’s move to Borussia Dortmund would become much more likely.

Fort already knows the spectacular atmosphere at Signal Iduna Park first-hand. The youngster native visited the stadium twice during the Champions League two seasons ago, although he remained on the bench without playing on both occasions.

If negotiations are completed in the coming days, he will have the chance to become a protagonist in front of the imposing Yellow Wall.

Barcelona value Fort at €15 million. The player is now waiting to see whether an agreement with Borussia Dortmund can be reached.
