Jon Jones’ all-time great status can be credited to late brother Arthur’s influence says UFC legend

Jon Jones is considered by many to be the greatest fighter in UFC history – and one octagon legend believes that can be credited to his late brother Arthur.

The former NFL star passed away last week at the age of just 39, and was close with his brother Jon during his runs to two UFC world titles. A number of major names in the promotion including Conor McGregor and Dana White have spoken out in tribute as the icon remains on a social media hiatus.

And Henry Cejudo, the Olympic gold medalist and former UFC flyweight and bantamweight champion, believes the younger Jones would never have made it to the top of his sport without his older brother’s influence.

Speaking on his show Pound 4 Pound with fellow UFC legend Kamaru Usman, Henry Cejudo recalled how Jon Jones was inspired for his own athletic career by childhood fights with his brother Arthur.

“Jon used to tell me stories about his brother,” Cejudo told Usman. “He’s like, ‘Dude, my older brother used to beat the s— out of me.’ He was a really high-level wrestler in the country before he transitioned into football.

“Why is Jon Jones the greatest of all time? It’s probably because he got bullied by his brother, Arthur Jones. It’s sad news for Mixed Martial Arts, it’s unfortunate, and I felt it too even though I wasn’t super close with Arthur, it stings.

“It just lets you know you’re here one day but you could be gone the next.”
