Flick explains changes to the Barcelona lineup vs PSG – ‘What we believe to be the best…’

A little while ago, FC Barcelona announced their starting lineup for tonight’s UEFA Champions League game against Paris Saint-Germain.

There were changes made to the team that featured against Real Sociedad on Sunday night in La Liga.

One of the most notable changes comes in the attacking unit, where Lamine Yamal replaces Roony Bardghji, after making his comeback from injury over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Pau Cubarsi and Eric Garcia have been entrusted with the responsibility of shutting down the PSG attack as the centre-backs, with Flick opting to bench Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen.

Dani Olmo also returned as the No. 10, but Robert Lewandowski did not get a look in.

Following that, manager Hansi Flick briefly spoke to Movistar+, and explained the thought process behind choosing this specific lineup to face PSG.

“We’ve chosen what we believe to be the best starting eleven and the best team for today’s match, that’s what we’ve thought,” he unequivocally said.

When asked about Luis Enrique’s praise for midfield maestro Pedri, Flick also spoke highly of the Barcelona star, but insisted that the team, as a whole, needs to perform for them to win tonight.

“For me, Pedri is an incredible player. But in the end, the most important thing is to play as a team, to play as a single unit, which is what we have done in the last few games since the break. This is what worries me most right now,” he said.

On being asked what kind of a game he expects against PSG, the Barcelona manager remarked:

“It’s going to be a great match. Anyone who knows the business of football knows the importance of this match, and we all love competing against a great team like PSG.”
