Barcelona suffered a setback on Friday after it emerged that the judge of Commercial Court No. 10 had decided to deny the precautionary measure that would have allowed Pau Victor and Dani Olmo to be registered in La Liga.
This judicial decision forces the Catalan giants to explore alternative routes to ensure both players can participate in the second half of the season.
Money for the 1:1 rule and the deadlines for registration
According to SPORT, Barcelona are awaiting the outcome of a new legal action that was filed in parallel in a First Instance Court in an attempt to secure the injunction.
The next step for the club will be attending the hearing at the First Instance Court in Barcelona on Monday, December 30. However, it remains unclear when the judge’s decision will be announced.
Time is now of the essence, as the federative contracts of both players expire on December 31, and La Liga will not permit them to be re-registered during the winter transfer window unless Barcelona renew their contracts before the year ends.
As such, Barcelona are now engaged in a race against time. Another option for registering the players would be to comply with the 1:1 rule, which would allow the club to operate with greater flexibility.
As previously reported, following their agreement with Nike, the Blaugrana still need an additional €60 million euros to meet the required conditions for the rule.
The easiest way to raise this amount would be by using the ‘lever’ of selling VIP seats at the Spotify Camp Nou.
With a deal already in the works with a Qatari company for the marketing of these seats over the next 20 years, Barcelona could generate around €120 million, which would be more than enough to register Olmo and Pau Victor.
Another viable option for the club is to rely on personal guarantees from the board of directors, a strategy previously used for the registration of Jules Kounde in 2022 and Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo in 2023.
All in all, Barcelona do not have a lot of time and are running out of options as well and thus need to act swiftly if they are to ensure that Olmo and Victor can continue playing in the second half of the season.
