Earlier in the season, Ansu Fati had shown high hopes of a return to prominence, thanks to renewed faith from new coach Hansi Flick.
However, since then, the forward has had a very residual role in the Barcelona team, as he continues to struggle to become a regular fixture in the Barça frontline.
Faith from Flick has also waned and everything suggests he could be set for an early exit from Barcelona, with Sevilla among the clubs interested in his services.
Sevilla remain interested
A fresh report from Diario SPORT has reiterated the fact that Ansu Fati is still a hot topic in the Sevilla circle right now.
It appears coach Garcia Pimienta remains a huge supporter of the Spaniard, with whom he has worked together at La Masia. He believes he can bring the best out of Fati once again.
Keeping that in mind, Sevilla continue to eye a move for Fati, especially with the January transfer window just around the corner.
Barcelona, too, appear to be open to selling Fati in January, as they are not in a position to guarantee the player regular game-time.
Potential complications
However, Ansu Fati’s potential January move to Sevilla won’t be as straightforward as it sounds.
For one, Sevilla must obtain the approval of Fati, who has remained reluctant about leaving Barcelona permanently. Moreover, the two clubs must find an agreement as well.
Sevilla’s ongoing economic woes mean the club won’t be able to take on Fati’s wages from January till the end of the season. As such, they will have to convince Barcelona to pay most of the forward’s wages during this period.
All these complications may derail the progress of a deal, but with Sevilla as optimistic as ever, it will be interesting to see how this transfer saga takes shape.
